If you have ever visited the handmade gift shop upstairs, you almost certainly will have stopped off for a look at the Colcanya stall. Colin the creative behind Colcanya (named so because people always ask him “Col, can ya make?” which the answer is almost always a yes!) has been with us since we opened the handmade shop. He is probably best known for his wooden coasters, that have carved picture or words on and his ever popular wooden “born and bread in Stalybridge” boards. Colin is always happy to create bespoke pieces and designs as well, so if you cant see it he almost certainly can make it for you- just ask us at the till and we can ge tthem ordered for you. Sadly like many this year Colin has been made redundant, and he used this opportunity to take the next step and look at seeing if he could turn Colcanya from a hobby to a business. Colin has been selected as one of five small businesses across Tameside to receive some funding from Jigsaw Homes SUSSED IT (Start Up Support and Social Enterprise Development in Tameside) and 1-2-1 business support and training.

We couldn’t be happier for him and we know he will be a great success with developing his business. Colin has got his Christmas star lights in the shop, and has restocked on his popular wooden coasters which make great stocking fillers.
