At Magpie’s Nest, we’re passionate about giving back to the community, and for July, we’re thrilled to announce our fundraising for George’s Kitchen, a fantastic group of volunteers dedicated to nourishing and connecting with vulnerable and elderly residents in Ridgehill and Blandford House.
George’s Kitchen: More Than Just a Meal
Founded in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdowns, George’s Kitchen emerged from a simple yet powerful desire to combat isolation and loneliness. They recognized the challenges faced by many elderly and vulnerable individuals, especially during a time of social distancing. Their solution? Delivering delicious, home-cooked meals alongside a friendly chat – a lifeline for those who might not otherwise have human interaction throughout the week.
Making a Difference, One Delivery at a Time
Every week, George’s Kitchen provides 40-50 meals to residents in Ridgehill and Blandford House. The process is heartwarmingly collaborative: volunteers cook the meals, and another dedicated team delivers them, ensuring a hot meal and a chance to connect.
Here’s How You Can Help!
Throughout July, Magpie’s Nest is committed to raising funds for George’s Kitchen in July. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of these vulnerable individuals, ensuring they receive nourishing meals and a chance to connect with friendly faces. Here’s how you can get involved:
- Drop Your Loose Change: Keep an eye out for our loose change pot on the counter. Every little bit counts!
- Join the Fun at our Live Music Night Raffle: Join us for a night of music and community spirit on Saturday, July 27th! We’ll be hosting a raffle with fantastic prizes, with all proceeds going directly to George’s Kitchen. David Tilbrook, Chair of George’s Kitchen, shares the impact of your generosity:
“These funds are a huge help… The money sits in a pot and we use that to buy the ingredients… People really value it. People really enjoy the chat and some look forward to it – the meal is really just a way to get them to open their door. Some people might not speak to anyone else all week.”
Together, we can make a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. By supporting George’s Kitchen, we’re not just providing meals; we’re fostering a sense of community, combating loneliness, and ensuring that no one feels forgotten.
Let’s spread kindness this July! Visit Magpie’s Nest today to learn more and join us in supporting this incredible cause.
