Father’s Day

This weeks blog, is a little bit different from our usual one, its quite personal. So if your looking for something about pretty colours or handbags, this weeks might not be the one for you to have a read of!

Over the last few weeks in the Nest we have been promoting our new range of men’s accessories and gifts which we launched in time for father’s day.  They are very lovely products – if you haven’t seen them, do have a look next time your passing. However as today is Father’s Day I thought I would share with you a little bit about my pops.

Some of you may be aware that my pops died aged 61 after a 10 year battle with Leuakaemia. This year will be the 3rd Father’s day with out him and its still taking a bit of getting used to.

Loosing my pops had a huge impact on my life, and as much as its a cliché it made me look at what was important in life and I made some huge changes… the biggest of all was opening Magpies Nest. This wasn’t the only reason I started this business, but it was certainly a huge contributory factor. In a way I guess the Nest is a way of keeping  him close to me, a legacy, as in a strange way, if I hadn’t lost him then I probably wouldn’t have been brave enough to start my own business.

This is the reason Magpies Nest supports the charity Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Initially I decided to have a charity link through the businesses because I figured if it all went wrong and the business didn’t work, then at least we would have helped to raise a few quid for charity!

Since opening in 2013 we have managed to raise with your help just shy of £2,500 this has been achieved through events, collections, and sales profits donations. We are already planning new lines for the Autumn / Winter Collection from which the charity will receive the profits from the sale of these products.

The intention of sharing this with you today was not to depress anyone, but a chance to give you a little bit of an insight into my personal journey and explain the link between the business and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, as sometimes this can be lost.

Pops would not have wanted to depress folk with this, so I am going to finish this weeks blog, have a right nice glass of wine and go out for dinner, and celebrate my pops, just as we would have done if he was still with us. Enjoy the rest of your day, and thanks for taking the time to read this.

Our summer bloom range is still available in shoulder bags, purse and the floral scarf. We are due a delivery this week of the tote bags, which we sold out of last month. You can buy these products on line or in store.
