This year, we’ve asked our team to nominate charities that resonate deeply with them, and we’re thrilled to kick off our 2025 Charity of the Month initiative with Liz’s heartfelt nomination for Blood Cancer UK.
Why Blood Cancer UK?
Blood Cancer UK is an incredible organization dedicated to beating blood cancer. With over 250,000 people in the UK living with blood cancer, this charity’s work is vital in providing hope, support, and life-saving research. Their mission is to improve the lives of everyone affected by blood cancer, from diagnosis to treatment and beyond.
Liz’s Story
Liz has nominated Blood Cancer UK as our first charity of the year. Liz’s connection to this cause is deeply personal, as she has witnessed the impact of blood cancer on a close family member. Her beloved pops passed away at the age of 62 from chronic myeloid leukaemia, after 13 years of battling the illness. He was incredibly lucky to participate in a trial for a revolutionary new drug, which aimed at controlling the disease without the need for chemotherapy. This trial granted Liz and her family 13 more precious years with him.
During those years, Liz’s father took early retirement and began travelling the world, instilling in her a passion for travel. Despite his illness, he never complained about his misfortune or setbacks. Instead, he remained positive and optimistic, qualities Liz deeply admires and strives to embody. His optimistic outlook inspired Liz to take a chance on opening her shop in Stalybridge, a town once labeled a “Ghost Town.” That optimism paid off, and her shop continues to thrive today. This enduring optimism and resilience are the reasons why Magpie’s Nest has such a strong connection to Blood Cancer UK.

They provide comprehensive support services for patients and their families, ensuring they have access to the best information and care. Additionally, they advocate for policy changes to improve outcomes for those affected by blood cancer.
