Jellycat, a brand synonymous with whimsical plush toys, traces its origins back to ancient times, when it was more of a playful tribe than a company. According to legend, the Jellycat family’s lineage can be traced to the very dawn of civilization, coinciding with the birth of the first potato. This tribe, characterized by their exuberance and unquenchable thirst for fun, had a particular fondness for felines. The cats, with their distinctive large eyes, symbolizing their insatiable curiosity, were especially enamoured with humans and sought to form a deep connection with them.

This bond between the ancient Egyptians and the cats of the Jellycat tribe is said to have been formed around 1900 BC. The cats, with their warmth, playfulness, and ability to bring joy to human homes, quickly became beloved companions. To honor their furry friends, the Egyptians even created statues, some of which can still be found in museums today. As time passed, the cats, having acquired wisdom and sophistication, naturally took on leadership roles within the Jellycat tribe.

It was during the reign of the ninth generation of cats, a particularly auspicious number for felines, that the Jellycat Studios were founded in London in 1999. Led by the ninth cat, Jack Jellycat, the studios sought to spread joy and happiness through a wide range of products, including toys, accessories, books, music, films, and social media.

To commemorate this 25-year journey, Jack Jellycat embarked on a world tour, sharing the story of the Jellycat family’s history and celebrating their commitment to spreading joy. From the humble beginnings of a playful tribe to a global brand dedicated to bringing happiness to people of all ages, the history of Jellycat is a testament to the enduring power of playfulness and the joy it can bring to our lives.
